Saturdays have become somewhatnon-existent for me when I realized that I was pretty much doing the same things over and over. I worked as a nurse at the hospital, with most of my shifts scheduled from 11 pm to 7 in the morning. Not as good asorse, Tuesday was my only day off so most of my friends and family would still be stuck in the middle of their work, leaving me a book to read and a can of ice cold beer to unwind and let go of a week’s worth of stress.

I tried my best not to think about my friends come Saturday night. I did not want to imagine the leather wine carrier my best friend Carl always brought when there were pre-night-out dinners. I’d be runningfrom one corridor to the top floor of the 11-storey building all night while everyone else was painting the town red. For the entire 8 hours I followed doctors, wrote down hospital notes and did everything from applyingbandages to saving lives.

The Morning After

When I’d return to my locker to pack up at around 7:15 on Sunday morning, my cellular phone would be full of text messages and missed calls from virtually every person I know. My brother mentioned how he got engravable cufflinks to spice up his attire. Michelle was ecstatic about the concert they went to and how she got free engraved zippo lighters, civilityof the hot vocalist. My friends, I can say, are quite famouswhen it comes to partying so they never really have any problems getting freebies, VIP passes and other discounts.

Overall, I do not regret not being able to party much these days. I have a stable job and a good salary which afforded me engravable cufflinks as well. I just don’t know when or where I’m going to get to wear them. Scrubs and slip-ons have been my attire for 3 months now. Although I no longer get to go throughthe rush after having a couple of drinks, I do get excitedevery time I see other health professionals rushing towards a patient or area. Hospital life is actually not that boring, even if you’re working only at night.

Doing Better Things

It’s actually good that I’ve finally found solacein what I do. I might miss the usual Saturday get-togethers but I find that doing good in my job and making up for the lost time during the day is still very achievable, regardless of your shift. I made it a point to eat healthy, exercise and get enough sleep. Adjusting my body clock was pretty easy. When I’d get home at 8 am, I’d take a quick bath then hit the bed. I’d be up by around 3 or 4pm then would get my late “breakfast”. I’d either selectto watch some TV, do some house chores or buy some stuff at the mall or nearby grocery store.

I’d be done by around 8 so I’d hit a 90-minute workout before finally going back to my work routine. It isn’t all that bad if you come to think of it. I guess routines can be the most amazing things if you derive some meaning in what you do and constantlyset objectives to keep you on your toes.

The Internet has recently brought forth a new kind of university, one without a geographical center. These colleges offer an education through online lectures, discussions, and assignments.

They are a good option for people without the time and money to spend four years at a college site, but can also turn out to be scams. Before enrolling in an online college, you need to determine whether it is accredited.

The Accreditation Factor

If a school has been accredited, that means it has been reviewed and certified to teach an academic program and hand out degrees.

If a school is not accredited, it can claim to teach all they like, but you will never receive a real diploma from them. Accreditation ensures that schools are providing a high quality education and a somewhat consistent curriculum for each subject core.

The Claims of Many

There are many schools claiming to be accredited, but accreditation doesn’t mean anything if it comes from a non-recognized organization.

Any organization stating they are accredited by the IAAOU (International Accreditation Agency for Online Universities), Board of Online Universities (BOUA), World Online Education Accrediting Commission (WOEA), and UCOEA (Universal Council for Online Education Accreditation), are not real universities and will not offer a quality education. Hint: no real accrediting organization has the word “online” in its title.

These so-called “online universities” that claim accreditation from such sources will, at best, provide you a poor education that few respect.

At worst, they will simply sell you a fake diploma. It is illegal in many states to claim you have a degree if all you really own is a diploma from one of these schools.

Authentic Options

There are real online schools, but legitimate ones are the in the minority. To be a valid, recognized university in the United States, a school must be accredited by an organization that has itself been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), or both.

There are five main regional accreditors and many smaller organizations recognized by CHEA and USDE. These organizations have lists on their web sites.

Perception is Important

An online education is not as well respected as attending a physical university with a college campus, but it can be a great option for self-motivated people who need to earn a degree more quickly while they move forward with their lives.

It is not such a good idea to jump into an online education straight out of high school, but is very helpful for those already employed and who want to give their careers a little boost by finally earning that coveted degree.

Make sure the online school you are considering is accredited from a respected institution that has been approved by the CHEA or the USDE. They authenticate the only real schools online that count!

With so many home schools teaching programs and options now becoming available for parents who want to Home Schooling their children at home, the problem is no longer where to find the programs you need, but rather which one to use. The Waldorf system, used in both regular schools and for home schooling is one that is becoming increasingly popular. The Waldorf Home School system in unconventional in its approach to education and while it has been proven to produce intelligent, articulate and well rounded children, its unconventional nature makes many parents hesitate about using it.

Developed by Rudolph Steiner in the early 20th century, the concept behind a Home School Waldorf is what he called “developmentally appropriate education.” That is, it the way knowledge is imparted changes as a child develops. For this reason the Waldorf Home school system is divided into three distinct approaches to learning. In the early years children learn best through movement and imitation so the Waldorf home school system provides a program of imaginative play activities, rhythm based activities and music rather than teaching of common core subjects like maths and reading. The theory is that stimulating the mind at an early age prepares it to better absorb knowledge in later years, so that the standard subjects, although begun later that in in other systems, are understood both faster and in more detail. The Waldorf home school program is based on the concept that creativity encouraged in the early years will remain throughout life.

In the middle years, from 7 to 14, more conventional subjects ate taken up, but still with the imaginative approach. History is taught not just a dry facts and dates, but as adventures that happened to real people. Writing is taught by first teaching children to copy letters and than working with them to put the letters into sequences that become words. The logical process of creating a written text is emphasized. Reading come after writing and it is the child’s own writing work that serves as the first reading exercises.

After the age of 14, children have developed a sufficient intellectual capacity for them to pursue high levels of learning and it is from this age that the Waldorf home school aims at achieving higher levels of academic performance based on the child’s highly developed intellectual and creative abilities. The Waldorf home school system believes in children’s abilities to explore subject themselves (with, of course, adult guidance). While there can be a focus on special subject such as physics, maths, history etc., other subjects are not ignored as only a well rounded individual can excel in specialized fields.

The basics of the Waldorf Home School system are:
· Learning first by doing and then theoretical understanding is introduced
· While some subjects may be given a greater focus, no subjects should be ignored as they all form part of a holistic knowledge base.
· Life values of truth, loyalty, goodness and beauty and so on are imparted not by just telling children about them, but by placing the children in an environment where they form a part of their daily lives.
· Children are discouraged from watching TV, playing video games and using computers (although computers may be allowed for older children) as they do not encourage the child to think and therefore inhibits his or her intellectual growth.

While many people think that home schooling is a new phenomenon, it has been around since the founding of this country. The only form of education the first settlers could give their children was home education and the only educational material available was often the Bible. The Bible was used not just a religious text but as a tool for teaching reading and writing. Along with this children leaned the practical necessities and values of life from their families and the acquired wisdom of their communities. Thus came into being the Christian home school.

It was only in 1852 that Massachusetts first mandated compulsory schooling for all children. While the law was good in theory, in practice many children from outlying areas were to far from schools to be able to attend schools and education in the house continued. Things slowly changed and by 1918 every state had its own laws on the compulsory education of children. With the spread of schools, formal education became a reality and by the middle of the 20th century, education provided by the school system was accepted as the norm. By the 1960s however, parents began to have doubts about the standard of formal school education, the values it taught and the harmful influences their children were being exposed to. Looking for an alternative, people started educating their children at home and today home schooling is legal in all 50 states and an estimated 2 million children are being homeschooled today. Among the various options for home schooling available today is the Christian home school.

There are no hard and fast rules in regard to what constitutes a Home Schooling Christian. Some families create the formal school environment at home with a room reserved as a class room, fixed study times, recesses and even home work for the children to do on their own. Others integrate schooling into their Christian life style and place less emphasis on a formal education environment and more on the teaching of life skills and values through example and the active participation of their children.

A search of the internet will reveal a variety of Home School Christian programs that parents can adopt. All these are designed around the idea that an important part of education is providing children with a strong foundation of Christian values, ethics and morals. But it is not necessary to use these programs in a Christian home school. Many parents use non religion based home school programs and add their own religious teaching to these. That’s the advantage of home schooling – the curriculum can be adjusted (within the applicable state laws) to provide the kind of education that parents want their children to have.

The basis of a Christian home school is that Christian values are passed on to the children, either in a formal structure manner of a specific program or in a way and by using methods that parents feel are more suitable for their families.

There is no right or wrong way to create a Christian Home Schooling. As long as part of the education encompasses teaching the children the Christian values that the parents believe in, the home school becomes a Christian home school.
